Raw Vegan Protein Donuts

I don’t really know what to say right now, as I am currently experiencing a beautiful food high.

Did you know that this beautiful hunk of a milk shake is packed with protein and fibre? Not only is it incredibly attractive, it’s actually really healthy for you. Oh, and it’s raw, vegan, sugar and gluten free.

Made with frozen bananas, protein powder, gluten free oats, and dark chocolate (anti-oxidants!); it’s a really good healthy treat.

Ingredients: 

For the donuts:

  • 50grams of gluten free oats (or regular oats)
  • 5 Medjool dates
  • 45grams of flavoured protein powder
  • 2TB Agave syrup
  • 3/4 water
  • Silicone donut mould
  • 4grams dark chocolate (at least 70%)
  • Parchment paper

For for the milk shake:

  • 2 medium sized frozen bananas
  • 1cup coconut milk (or your preferred milk alternative)
  • 1/2 TB Agave syrup
  • 20grams protein powder
  • 20grams dark chocolate *optional
  • A cute straw *optional…ish.

 

Instructions:

For the donuts:

  1. Soak the dates in the listed amount of water for 10 minutes. Allow the dates to cool before pitting them and adding back into the water and setting aside.
  2. In a food processor add the oats, protein powder, agave syrup and blend until the oats are broken down but not powdery.
  3. Now add in the dates and water and process again.
  4. Begin applying the mixture into your donut moulds, being sure to press down firmly and filling them completely to the very top.
  5. Place the moulds in the fridge for an hour.
  6. Once the donuts are done, melt the chocolate in a bowl (or mug). Using a spoon, begin to cover one side of the donuts with chocolate, then place them on a plate lined with parchment paper. At this point, you can add additional decorations on top like I did, or simply return the donuts to the fridge to chill until the chocolate is hardened.

For the shake:

  1. Melt the chocolate and begin pour along the inside of a tall glass. Set aside and begin making your milkshake.
  2. Add in the banana, milk, agave, and protein powder to a blender, then whiz away!
  3. Pour into your prepared glass and top with a straw and donut.
